Barcolana, which takes place since 45 years in the beautiful gulf of Trieste, is probably the largest sailing Regatta in the world.
Seven Refractories participated for the first time supporting Tiburon, a 8,4 m sailing boat.
Within 1.562 participants, Tiburon achieved 29th overall place and 2nd in its category.
Seven would like to congratulate the whole team, which is adding this prestigious result to a successful season of 19 regattas, winning 16 times its category and 2 times the overall ranking.
Seven Refractories, in collaboration with the Russian company Refracon Installations has successfully carried out the repair of hot-blast stove combustion chamber. The project realized in August, during capital repair of blast furnace № 5 NLMK, included full service range, from the cleaning of collapsed brick lining until the restoration of protecting layer on the wall and pipe valves by gunning. All the works have been done on a tight schedule within 48 hours. The Cowper on August 5th has been set and put on heating up.
20 tons of Seven Gun 82 NX have been installed during the repair.
Capital relining of Blast Furnace n°2 (hearth diameter 7,2 m and working volume of 1144 m3) started on the 24th of June by Seven Refractories, has been successfully consigned on the 14th of July, according to the repair timing with no delays, for heating up operations and it came back to the full production in the second half of July 2013.
The Project commissioned, was based mainly on the shotcrete technology using a movable lifting platform.
More than 600 ton of refractory unshaped materials have been applied. Different products based on corundum, silicon carbide and high grade mullite have been installed as working lining following the concept of different zoning for different type of stresses during BF operations: tuyeres area, bosh, belly, stack, dome, gas off takes.
Chemically advanced and high abrasion resistant, low cement castable (LCC) installed by shotcrete technology, self-flowing castables for taphole frame and filler between steel shell and the staves, high resistant plastics mixes for sealing the stave joints and tuyeres has been proposed as integral supply for the reconstruction.
The installation involved also relining of the upper part of the hearth with bricks above the carbon blocks.
The capital relining has been realized in cooperation with Refracon Installation, a Russian installation company with full set of equipment and technology for such operations.
BF2 Capital relining is the second complete project, including tuyeres area, carried out by Seven Refractories in Tulachermet plant after the successful BF1 reconstruction made in 2012.
The growing environmental concern over the climate risks has been assumed at Seven Refractories as an innovative approach to the market.
In June 2013 on the General Assembly of the PRE – European Refractories Producers Federation in Berlin, a general report made by Carbon Footprint was presented. It shows the actual average energy consumption in MWh/ton for the different refractory manufactoring processes.
The unshaped products (monolithics) clearly shows the lowest energy impact.
At Seven Refractories we go further: we produce more electrical power than our own consumption. In 2012 we produced 248 MWh and consumed in total (production machines, illumination, heating, climatisation…) 126 MWh.
Seven monolithics are probably the most energy efficient refractory products on the European market at this time.
An important project realized by Seven Refractories at BF 6 Azovstal – Mariupol. The capital refractory relining has been carried out between the 15th and 20th of April last at the casthouse n° 1. The entire main and secondary runners have been totally relined using different tyology of products.
The technical significant aspects concerned the main runner safety lining realized by precasted high alumina-silicon carbide blocks. The pieces already dried at 600 °C allow an important save of time in the planning of the work: the installation required just 4 days for the complete revaming of the casthouse.
The project has seen the synergy of experiences both of the local specialist and the engineering department of Seven.
The target to reduce the specific consumption associated with an extension of the life campaign of the units is the first milestone of Seven in the large project realization in Ukraine.
On March 14th the complete staff of Seven Refractories Russia (commercial and technicians) attended the International Conference for Refractory Experts and Metallurgists in Moscow.
The conference is the main event in Russia for activities related to the refractory markets and it is also an opportunity to share all the new ideas and concepts with representative coming from iron and steel enterprises.
Seven Refractories was invited to introduce a 20 minutes presentation entitled “ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY IN BLAST FURNACE LINING” edited by Palmisano, Folco, Povalyaev. The speech was done in English with a simultaneous translation in Russian for the audience.
In particular the presentation was mainly focused on three big project commissioned and completed in 2012:
NLMK BF5 – Tuyeres relining with bi-layer shotcrete concept,
NTMK BF5 – Copper staves repair with shotcrete technology
Tulachermet BF1 – Complete relining with double layer casting directly on the iron staves.
The general response from participants has been positive with a further confirmation of the name of Seven Refractories in the Russian and CIS markets.
We are very pleased to announce that in March it was published a two-page article in the journal ICR, one of the most important in the field of Cement Industry.
The article was written by Andrea Bovio, Seven Refractories Italy and describes thoroughly the solutions developed for riser ducts in cement kilns.
It is reported the difference among products based on silicon carbide and zircon considering the different chemical composition and different physical properties. The paper has been focalized on Seven Refractories top products for this application: Sevencast SIC 60 (based on SiC) and Sevencast AZ 40 (based on Zircon).
